WOOD GO TOP! Thorniewood United 2v1 Rutherglen Glencairn
Thorniewood came from behind to leapfrog Rutherglen and go
top of the Division after this pulsating contest at Robertson Park on Saturday.
After a competitive opening 20 minutes "Wood" produced the games first real chance
when Mark Daly fired a decent effort from 25 yards which Wilson in the visiting goal
was glad to see fly just over. A good move on the left in 28 minutes from Fallon and
Mullen combined to set up James Strain who fired over from 12 yards after the ball
appeared to get caught underneath him.Rutherglen had an opportunity in 37 minutes
when a Martin Devlin pass was intercepted on the right but Simon Hunter produced a
fine save to keep the scorers level. Moments later another scare for "Wood" as a
cross in the area wasn't dealt with allowing Hoey to fire into the side netting with
the goal at his mercy. Thorniewood were dealt a blow on the stroke of half!
time when Hoey hit home from a few yards amidst strong home offside appeals(where
any one of three could have been flagged) to give Glens the lead.Thorniewood
started the second half in aggressive fashion and a Stuart Little corner from the
right in 46 minutes slammed against the crossbar with Wilson beaten. Although
enjoying the bulk of the play it was Rutherglen who were next to threaten on the
hour mark but once again Simon Hunter produced a superb point blank save to keep
"Wood" in the game.In 66 minutes a fine cross from the right by Eddie Logan was
met flush by Johnny Fallon but the midfielders effort was tipped over by the alert
Wilson. Rutherglen were awarded a 73rd minute penalty after Hunter was adjudged to
have fouled. The big keeper then made amends saving low to his left. Moments later
Thorniewood won a penalty themselveP when a Joe Tobin cross was handled in the
area. Stephen Mullen's kick was well saved by Wilson but sub Paul Stevenson was
first to react fir!ing home the equaliser. Robertson park erupted in 85 minutes when Mullen fired home from 10 yards after a Des Bradshaw blocked effort fell in his path.A deserved victory and fantastic team performance where there wasn't a failure.A delighted co manager Johnny Stevenson beamed: "That was our biggest test to date
against the league leaders and we have come away with flying colours. To go behind and still win was particularly pleasing and shows the desire and will within this squad. We are playing well and go to Benburb on saturday in good form".

Thorniewood United 4v2 Blairgowrie
Thorniewood progressed to the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup after a well earned
victory against Perthsire side Blairgowrie at Robertson Park on saturday afternoon.
After a scrappy opening "Wood" came close in 11 minutes when a triple effort by
Strain, Mullen and Little ended in a corner.
A neat dribble and shot by Joe Tobin in 15 minutes was blocked by O'Brien in the
visiting goal as United started to threaten.
Thorniewood took the lead in 17 minutes after Stephen Mullen had been upended on
the byline. The striker then stepped up to confidently dispatch low into the net.
Blairgowrie had a chance to level in the next attack but Farquharson headed into the
side netting from a Duncan free kick. They came even closer in 28 minutes when a
lack of communication between Daly and Hunter almost cost "Wood" dear but the well
positioned official was well placed to wave away claims that the ball had crossed
the line.
This signalled the start of a good spell for Thorniewood and in 40 minutes a superb
ball from Stuart McCormack found Stuart Little overlapping on the left and the full
backs inch perfect cross was stabbed home at the near post by the alert James
Strain.
Blairgowrie almost replied immediately but Neave unmarked at the back post again
from a Duncan free kick could only find the side net.
A sensational touch and pass from Strain in 43 minutes sent Mullen through but he
was thwarted by O'Briens double save.
From the corner Thorniewood made it 3v0 with Mark Daly rising well to head home.
"Blair" started the second half with purpose and after a good block by Kevin
Halliday. Brash made it 3v1 in 48 minutes when "Wood" failed to deal with a low
corner from the right.
Moments later a fine Martin Devlin pass sent Strain through but his effort was
blocked by the busy O'Brien who reacted well to save Mullen's follow up header.
Blairgowrie got a second in 66 minutes when Duncan blasted home after the ball had broken from a free kick.
Barry McGown then hit the under side of the bar with a superb free kick and watched in
horror as Joe Tobin's follow up header hit the bar twice before going over.
Eager to kill the tie Thornierwood continued to press and in 72 minutes Mullen beat
the offside trap to set up Martin Devlin who's 10 yard effort was cleared off the
line by the releaved visitors.
Halliday, Strain and Stevenson then combined to present Mullen with a gilt edged
chance in 78 minutes but he blazed over with the goal at his mercy. To his credit
Mullen then forced O'Brien into a fine finger tip save as the pressure continued.
Sub Des Bradshaw then wrapped up proceeding in the 94th minute when firing home an
unstoppable volley into the top left hand corner. A strike of real quality.
A deserved victory from Thorniewood in a highly entertaining match.
Co Manager Johnny Fallon commented: "I'm delighted with the win. Blairgowrie are a
quality side. We lost it a wee bit in the second half but overall were worthy winners".

WOOD WIN AT GOW"!
Lesmahagow 1v3 Thorniewood United
After a tentative, scrappy opening "Wood" began to assert and took the lead in 11
minutes when Mark Daly shot home in a crowded area after being found with a fine Des
Bradshaw pass. Moments later Martin Devlin had a 20 yard effort go over as United
began turning the screw. Joe Tobin was next to come close in 19 minutes but his
header from an Eddie Logan throw went just wide. The home goalkeeper then produced a
great stop to deny a crispy struck Bradshaw shot from the edge of the area as
Thorniewood continued to dominate. Lesmahagow a shadow of their former selves at
last registered an attempt in the 38th minute but the chance was scuffed wide when
it looked easier to score.
At last United's efforts were further rewarded with a crucial second on the stroke
of half time when Daly slotted home from from 10 yards despite home claims Tobin had
impeded the keeper.
Soon after the restart centre back Stuart McCormack broke from deep to find Mullen on the right flank
but his cross was blazed over by Bradshaw.
The same duo Mullen and Bradshaw then combined to set up a chance for
James Strain who's angled shot was saved at the foot of the post. A minute later
the big striker got his head on to a huge Hunter kick out to send Mullen through to
finish in style via the post for a 53rd minute third.
Martin Devlin's fine interception and pass set up Mullen in 62 minutes but this time
he fired wide with only the keeper to beat.
The one way traffic was halted in the 77th minute when "Wood" keeper Simon Hunter
produced an excellent stop to deny "Gow". However this lasted only a further two
minutes when the home side scored a consolation in 79 minutes following some
indecision in the United defence. This signalled a decent 10 minute spell for the
home side as they pressed for the first time in the match. Thorniewood however were
never in danger and on the final whistle Tobin broke from his own half before chipping just over.
All in all a very competent display from a Thorniewood side high in confidence.
The result was never in doubt and infact could have been more.

WOOD HIT VALE FOR FOUR"
Vale Of Leven 3v4 Thorniewood United
Thorniewood won three vital league points at sunny Millburn Park on Saturday against
a side who are always a hard nut to crack, making victory all the sweeter.
Vale took the lead with their first real attack in 7 minutes when McNaught finished
a move on the right from a few yards out after Terry Markey had lost out at
halfway.
"Wood" began to find their feet and came close in 14 minutes when a Stephen Mullen
effort from the edge of the area came off the foot of the post with the keeper
beaten. Vale almost added a second a minute later when a free header from a corner
on the right was cleared off the United goal line.
Thorniewood got the equaliser in 20 minutes when Mullen drove home from the penalty
spot after a hand ball incident in the Vale box. The Viewpark side then went infront
in 24 minutes when Mark Daly rose above the home defence to bullet a Stuart Little
corner into the roof of the net.
The hectic pace of the game continued before Vale equalised in 31 from a Lees
penalty after a rather harsh looking hand ball award against Joe Tobin.
Taking heart from this the home side were further rewarded when taking the lead in
38 minutes through Pawsey who neatly slotted home after a mistake by McCormack.
A Mullen cross from the right found Des Bradshaw six yards out but his effort was
somehow blocked over the bar by Carr in the home goal. However a replica move three
minutes later resulted in a crucial Bradshaw leveller in 45 minutes when the
midfielder dispatched a Mullen cross confidently into the rigging to end a half of
thrilling, attacking football.
The second period started in somber fashion for "Wood" as key central defender
Stuart McCormack had to retire due to a very nasty looking mouth and throat injury
being replaced by Darren Murphy. Both teams continued to have a go at each other
before Bradshaw made Carr produce the save of the match in 70 minutes with the keeper
saving at full stretch his sweetly struck 25 yarder.
The winner soon followed in 73 minutes when a long eddie logan throw on the right
was missed by Carr and slotted home by the alert Mullen. A late Vale netbound effort
was cleared by Little as "Wood" went on to comfortably run down the clock and
register a well derserved win.
A fantastic, attacking advert for the Junior game.
An elated co manager Johnny Fallon beamed: "What a result. We have been talking
about the importance of this game all week. The boys done themselves proud. To be
behind twice at a place like this and still come out on top is superb. At this level
we are a decent team and on our day will match most sides. The only down points were
a couple of sloppy goals conceeded and the injury to big Stu.

Thorniewood United 8v0 Cruden Bay
Thorniewood strolled through to the next round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday with
an emphatic victory against a young, inexperienced Cruden Bay side.
Stephen Mullen opened the scoring in 2 minutes when latching onto a Joe Tobin knock
down to dispatch low into the corner from 12 yards. Mullen again came close in 7
minutes but scuffed wide with only the keeper to beat. Good play from debutant Barry
McGowan in 15 minutes resulted in a Stewart Little shot from 14 yards being helped
into the net by the alert Mullen to put "Wood" 2v0 up.
The one way traffic was momentarily halted in the 35th minute when Cruden Bay forced
a corner on the right.
Thorniewood almost added a third in 39 minutes when a Martin Devlin corner on the
right was met by the head of Eddie Logan but his net bound effort was cleared off
the line with the keeper beaten.
The first half ended when a great one-two by Markey and Mullen ended with the former
forcing the kee!
per to save with his legs to keep the score at 2v0.
Thorniewood started the second half with intent and in the opening minute Eddie
Logan blazed over after good build up play on the left.
To their credit the visitors never gave up or resorted to any crude challenges and
were rewarded with a shot on target in 48 minutes that Graeme Murphy in the home
goal dealt with comfortably.
A triple substitution was made in 48 minutes by United and it soon paid off when in
the 52nd minutes when JP Fitzpatrick made it 3v0 when fizzing home a 30 yarder low
into the corner.
Stephen Mullen came close moments later but his spectacular volley was brilliantly
saved by the visiting keeper.
Number four arrived in 72 minutes when James Strain hit home after the keeper
spilled a Des Bradshaw effort.
This signalled a major collapse for the visitors and further strikes from
Fitzpatrick(74), Bradshaw(77) and a Mullen brace in (79 & 85) completed the 8v0
scoreline.
A decent performance by Thorniewood against opposition who were keen but clearly a bit out!
their depth.
After the match Co Manager Johnny Fallon commented: " We won very comfortably and
keeping a clean sheet is always a bonus. Cruden Bay to their credit played their
hearts out and never resorted in any dirty stuff. Games like this are never easy on
the eye when it's so one sided but we went about it in a professional manner and go
into Saturday's match in confident mood".

Glenafton 5v2 Thorniewood United
Thorniewood's West of Scotland hopes ended in deepest Ayrshire on Saturday as
Glenafton ran out comfortable 5v2 winners.
After a fairly even, high tempo opening it was the home side who took a 14th minute
lead when a long ball found Feroz who incredibly found space between three "Wood"
defenders to score.
Thorniewood were playing neat, tidy football but Glenafton were always quicker and
more fluent on the break. Number two arived in 26 minutes when a cross from the
right was turned into his own goal by the luckless Eddie Logan.
Atrocious marking on the half hour almost resulted in a third but Feroz blazed over
when it looked easier to score. The big strike didn't have long to wait to make
amends and two minutes later knocked home from close range to make it 3v0 albeit
amidst strong and justifiable offside appea!
ls.
Too much slack play by Thorniewood was being capitalised on by the impressive home
side and it was no surprise to see a fourth being added in 39 minutes when Doyle was
able to collect the ball on the half way line, brush aside two weak challenges and
slot the ball inside the far post.
United's half time team talk was obviously a heated one as they started the second
period in more assertive fashion with Terry Markey scuffing a good opportunity wide.
Murphy in the Thoniewood goal produced a great save to prevent a fifth.
Kelly then tipped a Bradshaw effort onto the bar and from the resultant Devlin
corner Joe Tobin headed home.Markey then had a 30 yard drive tipped over as "Wood"
began to take the game to the hosts.
Stephen Mullen scored from the spot in 77 minutes to give "Wood" a glimmer of a
chance with Glenafton fullback Moffat recieving a red for his challenge. Incredibly
the home side were reduced to nine a minute later as substitute Tullis was given a
straig!
ht red for a ridiculous challenge on Stewart Little.
Hopes of!
a comeb
ack were dashed in the next attack when Feroz was allowed to complete his hat trick
after once again holding of a couple of weak challenges to hit home.
A much better second half showing from Thorniewood but the damge done in the first
proved just too much to overcome.

WOOD WIN IN POSSIL!
Ashfield 1v2
Thorniewood United Changes to both tactics and
personel paid dividends on Saturday as "Wood" produced a fighting display to take
all three points.Ashfield were first to threaten when a 10th minute O'Donnel effort
flew inches over after taking a wicked deflection off United centre back
McCormack. The tight confines of Saracen Park were contributing to a very
competitive, high tempo encounter. The home side again came close in 24 minutes when
Smith clean through forced a fine save from Murphy diving low to his left to make
the stop.Thorniewood's best chance came in 40 minutes when a Darren Murphy 25 yard
free kick was deflected past with McGovern in the home goal beaten. The second period
began as frantically as the first with play relentlessly raging from one end to the
other.Visibly more physical and direct than in the first half Thorniewood then began
to look the likelier side. This proved to be the case in the 65th minute when Stewart
Little opened his account for the club firing home from the edge of the box from a Stephen
Mullen lay off.A minute later United defender Darren Murphy was shown red for a
dreadful challenge, sparking scenes from the home dug out that amazingly went
unpunished.Ashfield equalised from the penalty spot in 70 minutes through Martin
after Kevin Halliday had fouled in the area.Mullen had a shot on the spin deflected
past as "Wood" searched for the winner.Thorniewood then had a stonewall penalty for
hand ball denied before justice was done in 78 minutes when Joe Tobin got on the
end of Eddie Logan throw to loop his header high into the top corner with McGovern
at full stretch beaten.Ashfield's Cairley was then shown red for a challenge on
Mullen before United keeper Murphy produced the save of the match in 93 minutes,
saving at full stretch a 25 yard free kick pile driver to ensure the vctory.A
fantastic result for Thorniewood at a venue where over the years success has been
few and far between.
After the match Co Manager John Stevenson commented:
The change to a 4-5-1 system worked a treat. After last week's disappointment the emphasis
was on not to conceed and it worked perfectly. It's rewarding when the players can
adapt to different systems and show their versatility and when we upped the tempo in
the second half we ran out deserved winners
WOOD GO DOWN IN 1O GOAL THRILLER!
Thorniewood United 4v6 Cambuslang Rangers
Thorniewood lost out in this high scoring thriller at Robertson Park on Saturday. Things began well for "Wood" taking the lead in 6 minutes when James Strain drilled home from 12 yards. Cambuslang responded immediately with Kenna hitting the post in the next attack .
A good move from United involving Daly, Mullen and Fallon ended with the latter blasting well over as the game opened up. "Lang" equalised in 23 minutes when former United player Chris Queen flicked home from 14 yards after the entire Thorniewood midfield had been caught out of position as the visitors broke.
Thorniewood were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute when Johnny Fallon was ruthlessly taken out by visiting center back Cornwell who was disgracefully then only shown a yellow card.
Up stepped Stephen Mullen to send Connelly the wrong way to restore United's lead.
This lasted all of two minutes before it was all square when Queen slotted home his brace when a ball from the right wasn't dealt with in central defence allowing him an easy finish.
Queen amazingly had a great opportunity in 40 minutes to get his hat trick but blasted over what probably was his easiest chance.
This was taken advantage of by Thorniewood in 44 when a rather soft penalty award was given and up stepped Mullen once more to bury the kick.
Kenna then missed a sitter for Rangers before Sweeney fired un unstoppable 20 yarder high into the top corner to make it 3v3.
Hitting with the wind Cambuslang looked the likelier side in the second period and on the hour took the lead when Cornwell headed home to give the the lead for the first time. Eddie Logan came close with a 63rd minute free kick before Ogilvie fired home number five in 75 minutes. The game was ended as a contest when the visitors got a sixth in the 84th minute
when another soft penalty was given which Ogilvie slotted home.
The scoring was completed two minutes into stoppage time when Joe Tobin headed down for Mark Daly to put in from close range.
An amazing scoreline in a match that Thorniewood in all honesty weren't firing on all cylinders with the midfield and central defence looking well out of sorts. Overall Cambuslang deserved the victory but just how important was the decision by the ref not to show red to Cornwell? Very I feel!!

Yoker Athletic 2v2 Thorniewood United
Thorniewood returned with a well deserved point from Yoker on Saturday thanks to a dramatic late equaliser.
The opening exchanges were even with both sides sizing each other up before "Wood" registered the game first real attempt in 16 minutes when an Eddie Logan 25 yarder flew inches over with the keeper beaten.
Yoker took a surprise lead in 20 minutes when Cameron headed home from close range following a corner on the right.
They amost added a second in the bext attack when a Martin Daly clearance deflected off a home player and into the side netting.
Good hold up play in 36 minutes by Stephen Mullen set up Des Bradshaw who fired wide from a tight angle.
Murphy in the United goal was called into action early in the second half to save a Cameron header before JoeTobin fired over from 14 yards after good play from Fallon and Mullen.
With the game deteriorating into a niggly, physical affair Thorniewood grabbed an 80th minute equaliser when Martin Daly headed home a Logan free kick at the far post. Number two almost followed immediately when a James Strain header went inches past.
Yoker regained the lead in 85 minutes when slack marking by "Wood" at a long throw allowed the home side a cheap goal.
With the match deep into injury time Thorniewood scored that late, late 95th minute leveller
when an alert James Strain was on hand to knock home after a 25 yard Johnny Fallon free kick had come of the inside of the post.
Incredibly Stephen Mullen came close to winning the game in the 100th minute but after a great run his shot was comfortably saved by a relieved home keeper.
Another good result from the inform Viewpark side.
Co Manager Johnny Fallon reflected "We played well and dug out a point when all seemed lost. We battled for everything and if the ref who had a shocker had been more consistent I'm sure we would have bagged all three"

WOOD GET OFF TO FLYER!
Thorniewood United 3v2 Johnstone Burgh
Thorniewood got their divison one league campaign off to a flyer with a deserved win in this keenly contested contest on Saturday
Wood started well and Stephen Mullen done well to set up an 11th minute chance for Paul Stevenson who fired over from 10 yards with the keeper rooted.
This was followed when Stevenson forced the keeper into a great stop and a Mark Daly header looped just over as Thorniewood threatened.
Burgh's best effort was a decent strike from distance in the 37th minute that Andy Sweeney in the home goal appeared to have under control.
United took a deserved lead in 40 minutes with Joe Tobin heading home at the far post from a Martin Devlin corner on the left.
Wood finished the first half when a sweeping move ended with a Terry Markey effort being forced wide for a corner.
Surviving a first minute Mullen effort Burgh equalised in 50 minutes when a cross on the right was blasted home at the far post from six yards.
The visitors had a great escape soon after when a Stevenson cross from the right was pushed onto the bar before the keeper somehow kept Mullen's follow up out.
Thorniewood regained the lead in 66 minutes when a Markey cross on the right was knocked back by Mullen into the path of Stevenson who blasted home. Sweeney had to be on his toes when saving at the edge of his area in 75 minutes before Burgh equalised for the second time n 77 minutes when a spot kick was converted after United defender Stuart McCormack had handled in the box.
With 5 minutes remaining James Strain was pulled down allowing a confident Stephen Mullen to send the keeper the wrong way and secure victory.
A good start against opposition who were playing two divisions higher than Wood last season.
Manager Johnny Stevenson commented " We done well. We had a number of important players missing so were a bit stretched. But we've come through and deserved the win".

"Midweek Robbery at New Brandon"
Bellshill Athletic 3v1 Thorniewood United
Dick Turpin wouldn't have looked out of place in a Bellshill shirt after this cloak and dager mugging by the premier league side on wednesday evening.
Outplaying the hosts in every department for all but 20 minutes Thorniewood turned on a fabulous display of passing and movement that had their opponents on the back foot for most of the contest.
If ever there was a travesty of an outcome then this was surely it.
Bellshill's best man (The Referee), was by far the most important and influential man they had on the field winning their man of the match hands down.
Thorniewood came close in 12 minutes when James Strain knocked inches wide following a nice move on the right..
Two minutes later McNab in the home goal had to look lively when saving at full strech from a net bound Mullen effort. The next attack seen a Johnny Fallon Header sneak wide as Wood pressed for the opener. It looked as if had come in the 18th minute when the tireless Stephen Mullen set up a gilt edged chance for Strain who blasted high and wide with the goal gaping
Bellshill's best chance of the half was bizarrely set up by Wood centre back Stuart McCormack who's quick free kick caught everyone out allowing "Shill" to break free. The danger was ended when Andy Sweeney superbly turned the effort round the post.
Just before the interval a Fallon knock on sent Mullen through but the strikers shot was again excellently saved by McNab.
The second half was only a seconds old when United took a deserved lead when a Martin Devlin free kick on the right was headed on by Fallon and turned in at the far post by the alert Mullen who celebrated in style. A minute later Thorniewood were reduced to 10 men when Eddie Logan received a straight red for a challenge in the middle of the park.
Thorniewood responded well and in 55 minutes produced the move of the match when sweeping from box to box in four passes only to be denied by a last gasp tackle by the centre back.
From the resultant corner Joe Tobin forced McNab into a fine save at the foot of his post. Amazingly the next corner produced an even better chance but Strain unmarked at the back post headed over.
Looking back this was Wood's chance to kill the tie but it just didn't happen.
Stephen Mullen was scythed down on the touch line with the referee amazingly brandishing a yellow!! As shocking a decision as I have ever come across.
Having put so much into the match Thorniewood understandably began to tire. Bellshill equalised in 74 minutes when a cross on the left was turned in at the back post from point blank range.
Agonisingly number two came in 88 minutes and similarly to the first was sent over from the left and buried at the back post.
Number three came 3 minutes into stoppage time when a well timed run and shot high into the net completed the scoring.
I can't say enough of the quality and effort of Thorniewood's performance which at times was superb.
If the boy's produce our league cup performances in the league it won't be relegation we'll need to worry about it will be promotion.

Petershill 1v0 Thorniewood United
Thorniewood were narrowly beaten by premier league side Petershill at Springburn on Saturday afternoon. Giving a good account of themselves throughout "Wood" can consider themselves rather unfortunate to have come away empty handed.
The first real chance fell to the home side in 14 minutes but United keeper Simon Hunter saved well low to his left to keep the scorers level.
Slack marking at a 25th minute free kick almost cost Thorniewood dear but the chance was wasted when the Petershill midfielder glanced his header wide when infront of goal.
10 minutes later young Wood defender Kevin Halliday was stretchered off after a nasty looking challenge by Low.
Petershill started the second period in more determind fashion and scored what proved to be the winner in 53 minutes when Low's scuffed effort from 10 yards spun into the net with Hunter beaten.
The goal settled "Peasy" and further efforts in 56 & 60 minutes forced Hunter tp produce two excellent stops.
Moments later Stephen Mullen was put through but the striker failed to get the ball past the impressive Parry in the Petershill goal.
Thorniewood came agonisingly close to equalising in 80 minutes when a sweetly struck Eddie Logan 25 yard free kick came off junction of bar and post with Parry looking on anxiously.
A first class performance against top opposition from a Thorniewood side who continue to impress.

St. Rochs 0v7 Thorniewood United
Thorniewood produced a fantastic performance at Provanmill on Saturday to blow away St. Rochs by 7v0.
From start to finish the Viewpark side dominated and indeed could have won by many more.
The scoring was opened in 4 minutes when Stephen Mullen knocked in from close range after a Martin devlin corner had been vollyed across goal by Paul Stevenson.
Number two arrived five minutes later when Mark Daly guided home following a great four man move on the right.
Apart from a couple of St. Roch corners Thorniewood were in total control and went further ahead in 17 miutes when Stephen Mullen fired high into the net from 9 yards.
Martin Devlin then produced a fine run and shot in 30 minutes and from the corner James Strain shot inches wide.
Wood¢s passing and movement was proving to much for the home side and it was no surprise to see number four go in on 57 minutes via the penalty spot when Stephen Mullen completed his hat trick after Joe Tobin had been assaulted in the box with the disgraced home player recieving a red.
Alreday struggling with eleven on the field Rock found it impossible when reduced to ten and further strikes from Logan(63), Devlin(73) and Strain(83) completed their day of misery.
A superb performance by Thorniewood at a venue which has prove troblesome in the past.
Manager Johnny Fallon enthused: 'A great performance from the boys in every department there wasn't a failure. It's been a good week for us picking up 6 points as well as playing as well as we have. But we wont get carried away and will continue to work hard. We take on Petershill on Saturday and Bellshill next Wednesday and look forward to the both'.

Thorniewood United 3v1 Shettleston Town
.
Thorniewood opened thie sectional league cup section with a well deserved victory against Shettleston at rain sodden Robertson Park on Wednesday evening.
Surviving a first minute scare when Town should have taken the lead "Wood" progressed to put on a performance of hope and potential against a young, new look Glasgow side.
In form Stephen Mullen headed home a 5th miute opener from a Martin Devlin corner. The same duo combined moments later with Devlin's superb pass releasing Mullen on the left but the strikers cut back found no takers and was cleared.
Johnny Fallon should have done better in 17 minutes but blasted over when put through by Tobin. Center back Stuart McCormack then had an effort well saved as Thorniewood piled on the pressure.
Shettleston countered from the resultant corner firing a 20 yader just wide to show they were still in the contest.
The visitors then had a amazing escape in 25 minutes when surviving a double Stephen mullen effort the first being stopped by the keeper and second cleared off the line by the fullback.
Against the run of play Shettleston equalised in the 44th minute when a cross from the left was neatly headed home giving Murphy no chance.
'Woods' response was immediate and in the next attack regained the lead when a great cross from Little on the left was squared back by Logan for Fallon to ram home from 6 yards.
The second period followed much the same pattern as the first with Thorniewood well in control. The best chance in the opening exchanges falling to Joe Tobin who's headed effort was excellently saved by the visiting keeper.
Number three arrived in 62 minutes from a Des Bradshaw penalty after Stephen Mullen had been upended when through.
An excellent match in the conditions with both teams commited t passing football. United in particular serving up a performance which was appreciated by their supprters in attendance.

Beith Juniors 6v1 Thorniewood United
An opening first half which promised so much to a second that produced so little as
Thorniewood were soundly beaten by six goal to one.
It had all started so brightly for the Viewpark side in a first half where they
gave as good as they got against a side two divisions above them in a highly
entertaining friendly at Belsdale on Wednesday evening.
Thorniewood came close mid way through the half when first a Martin Devlin shot and
then a Stephen Mullen deflected header came close before Beith took the lead in 35
minutes with the centre back heading home unchallenged following a corner on the
left. Alarmingly the same player was afforded the exact same luxury a minute later
but this time headed over. Wood keeper Simon Hunter then had to save well in 37
minutes as Beith chased a second.
The second half was unfortunately a one sided affair as the home side took control
early on scoring two goals within 10 minutes of the restart.!
A further three were added in the 74th, 80th & 81st minutes as Beith looked likely
to score in every attack.
This didn't happen however and Wood to their credit gained a consolation in 88
minutes when the impressive Stephen Mullen provided an opportunity for Des Bradshaw
who riffled home the chance.
Whitletts Victoria 3v2 Thorniewood United
Thorniewoods mini tour of Ayrshire ended
in a second defeat in 3 days when they lost by 3v2 to Whitletts Victoria on Saturday
afternoon.Voluntary Park played host to a fairly entertaining match, high on effort
but low on quality. The firey, narrow surface was causing both teams problems and the
stringing together of passes proved impossible. Whitletts almost took advantage of
some slack defending in the opening minute but they fired wide when it looked easier
to score. They didn't have long to wait however when in 5 minutes they took the lead
when poor play on the left cost Wood dear when the ball was crossed and volleyed
home from 8 yards giving Hunter no chance.
Johnny Fallon then hit an opp!ortunist equaliser in the 10th minutes when pouncing on a Vics error after some good play
from Tobin. The games only moment of real quality arived in the 39th minute when
Stephen Mullen collected an Eddie Logan throw in and from the junction of the 18
yard box superbly sent an unstoppable strike into the top postage stamp corner.
Whitletts rallied after this and before half time came close on three occassions.
They didn't have long to wait after the restart to get level when in the 55th
minute they headed home a chance after a cross from the right. Tehy should have
taken the lead in the 63rd minute when Ryan miller wa short with a headed pass
back but the forward fired wildly over when composure was required.Vics then missed
the chance of the match when heading over the bar from practically under the
crossbar. Reduced to 10 men in the 75th minute following a bizare triple red
United were punished with 5 minutes remainming when Martin Devlin was caught in
possession and from the resultant break Vics netted the winner.
Thorniewood United 6v0 Wishaw HSFP
Thorniewood won this in a canter against an enthusiastic but rather naive Wishaw
outfit who's persistence with the offside trap was to say the least baffling.
Terry Markey opened the scoring in 20 minutes when rounding the keeper to slot home.
Johnny Fallon made it 2v0 in 29 minutes beating the visitors offside trap to finish
cooly.
The match was finished as a contest soon after the restart when Fallon again netted
with a stunning effort that all but burst the net.
The one way traffic was further rewarded with a Darren Miller goal in 71 minutes
and a Des Bradshaw double in 75 & 90 minutes.
A good work out but quite clearly a gulf in class.
Thorniewood United 3v1 Muirkirk
Coming from behind after a first minute setback Thorniewood thouroug!
hly deserved this win against a physical and stuffy East Ayrshire side.
Wood equalised in 10 minutes when Des Bradshaw volleyed home from 10 yards after a
long throw on the right had been headed into his path. This settled the Viewpark
side and they started to take control. This was rewarded in 17 minutes when a
Bradshaw pass found Martin Devlin who hit home from 12 yards.
On the stroke of half time United got a third when Devlin fired home after the
visitors couldn't clear their lines.
The second period was a rather physical one with a number of strong challenges being
dished out by both sides.
Disappointingly no further goals were added but managers Fallon and Stevenson must
have been happy with the overall display against stuffy opposition.
Thorniewoods 2008/09 campaign got underway when they hosted the 4th Eddie Queen
Memorial Tournament at the weekend.
In the first match Blackburn United defeated Kircaldy YMCA 5v3 on penalties after
the match had ended in a 1v1 draw.
The second match seen Thorniewood see off East Of Scotland Senior outfit Civil
service strollers 5v1 curtousy of a 38th minute own goal and strikes from Mullen
(44), Strain (61), Fallon (70) and Fitzpatrick (75) with Strollers netting a
consolation in the 69 minutes.
Sunday seen Civil Service Strollers crush Kircaldy YMCA 5v1 in a rather one sided
3rd and 4th place play off.
Hoping to win the trophy for the 3rd consecutive year Thorniewood started well and
were rewarded in 10 minutes when Stephen Mullen lashed home high into the net from
10 yards following good play from Strain and Fallon.
Fallon himself had a great opportunity to add a second in 28 minutes but blasted
wildly over with only the keeper to beat.
Against the !
run of play Blackburn equalised in 30 minutes when Simon Hunter in the home goal
was punished for letting a corner from the right slip from his grasp.
This seemed to stir the West Lothian side and the then enjoyed a good spell winning
a few corners
The second half started brightly for Wood when Stephen Mullen won a penalty in the
50th minute. The normally cool striker then watched in horror as his effort was sent
low past the right hand post.
A James Strain header in 55 minutes somehow stayed out before a magnificent Johnny
Fallon free kick flew inches wide of the postage stamp corner as Wood upped the
pace.
Hunter then produced a great stop to keep the score level as Blackburn threatened.
Thorniewood's rather subdued performance was made even worse when a softish
penalty for hand ball was awarded against central defender Stuart McCormack. Sensing
this was their opportunity Blackburn didnt waste it finishing the kick with aplomb
giving Hunter no chance.
Fallon then had a header come off the post in 86 minutes as Thorniewood!
threw everyone forward. Strong appeals were made for a handball by a Blackburn player in
the dying minutes were waved aside by the referee adding to the frustration.
Thorniewood players used over the 2 days were. Simon Hunter, Martin Devlin, Terry
Markey, Johnny Fallon, Stuart McCormack, Joe Tobin, Paul Stevenson, Stephen Mullen,
Mark Devenney, Des Bradshaw, Darren Murphy, Eddie Logan, James Strain, Stewart
Little, JP Fitzpatrick, P Wharton
Manager Johnny Fallon reflected afterwards...." I was pleased with saturdays
performance where we started brightly and in the end should have won by more.
Sunday's match was more disappointing but with the changes we made, systems we
tried along with a lack of personnel I'm not too unhappy. We however continue to
make errors at the back and the frailties were there for all to see. But as I say
overall I was quite happy with the performances".
Wood Fail Against Vale
Thorniewood United 1v2 Vale Of leven
Failure to score a vital second goal cost Thorniewood dear on Saturday as Vale came from behind to win this vital promotion clash.
Things had started sweetly for Wood when Dessy Bradshaw fired them into a 6th minute lead from 8 yards following a superb pass from Darren Miller.
Well on top with a strong wind at their backs United looked likely in every attack. Indeed the biggest surprise being the slenderness of the 1v0 scoreline. Vale's total first half attacking contribution amounted to a corner in 20 minutes and a deflected shot in the 45th such was Thorniewood's dominance.
Joe Tobin had a chance in the 50th minute following good work down the right from Bradshaw and Mullen but his 20 yard shot blasted high into the side netting with the keeper beaten.
Wood were then awarded a large slice of luck in 53 minutes when the referee awarded the visitors a free kick after Bradshaw clearly fouled inside the box. Simon Hunter then produced a fine save moments later to keep the home lead intact.
Vale's pressure was finally rewarded with an equaliser in 65 minutes when Buchanan shot home after Hunter failed to deal with a Filshie shot. Number two arrived three minutes later when Wilson headed home unmarked from close range following a corner on the left.
Wilson missed a gilt edged opportunity when miss-kicking infront of goal in 73 minutes as the visitors searched for a third.
A match that had started so brighty for Thorniewood ended in disappointment with a below par second half showing.
As manager Johnny Fallon reflected. "We should have gone in at half time two or three up we were streets ahead. We disappointed in the second half but overall I still think we deserved at least a share of the points".

Stonehouse Violet 1v4 Thorniewood United
Thorniewood travelled to Tilework Park last Tuesday in the knowledge that nothing less than a win would do to maintain their promotion hopes.
Starting brightly United soon had their hosts on the back foot and in the opening 15 minutes four gilt edged chances were created and missed by Daly, McCormack and Miller twice in scenes in the Violet box reminiscent of the Alamo.
Thorniewood continued to dominate and further efforts from Stephen Mullen in 33 minutes and Mark Daly a minute later failed yet again to find the target. In 35 minutes home keeper Colquhoun was red carded after bringing down Dessy Bradshaw as he broke free.
At last the deadlock was broken in 40 minutes when Darren Miller found Stephen Mullen who made no mistake, dispatching a 25 yarder low into the corner.
The second half started in a more productive manner as Mullen volleyed home number two at the back post to make it 2v0. Stonehouse at last registered their first attempt at goal in 55 minutes but Wood keeper Simon Hunter was up to the task saving well.
Thorniewood made it 3v0 in the 62nd minute when Mullen completed his hat trick from the spot after Bradshaw had been fouled.
Stonehouse were reduced to nine men when McMillan was shown red after punshing Darren Miller in full view of the official.
United continued to press and Chris Queen headed weakly when in front of goal before the same player provided an inch perfect cross for Daly to knock home number four in the 80th minute.
Stonehouse then in onlytheir second attempt at goal scored an 87th minute consolation when their no 12 blasted home from close range.
A comprehensive victory and pleasing performance in what looked a tricky fixture.
Co Manager Johhny Fallon added: "We dominated throughout and should have won by more. we played well with the only negative the sloppy goal we lost at the end".
Thorniewood: Hunter, Devenney, Daly, fallon, Mccormack, Bradshaw, Tobin, Logan, Queen, Miller, Mullen.Subs Stevenson, Dias, Doogan. not used Halliday, Brown.
Carluke Rovers 1v3 Thorniewood United
Thorniewood's Loch Park hodoo was broken as they emerged deserved victors after a superb display against fellow promotion rivals always in command Thorniewood took a deserved lead in 15 minutes when Stephen Mullen slipped home past McFarlane after being put through by a clever Queen freekick. Dessy Bradshaw came close moments later but his header from a long logan throw flew narrowly past. Rovers equalised in 26 minutes when against the run of play when a long McFarlane clearance wasn't dealt with by McCormack before Hunter blasted the ball against Arnott which deflected agonisingly over the line.
This setback didnt seem to effect Wood as they continued to play some great stuff and were rewarded in 56 minutes when Mark Daly scored a screamer from 30 yards which flew into the bottom left hand corner of McFarlanes goal with the keeper beaten.
The keeper then produced a fine stop when tipping over a net bound Mullen freekick in 65 minutes with United pressing.
Thorniewood at last got the all important third goal when Tobin produced a fine pass for Mullen to run onto before slotting wide of the advancing keeper and into the net.
A fantastic performance from Thorniewood who where streets ahead of Rovers in every department.

Thorniewood United 5 v1 Royal Albert
Thorniewood went top of the league after this victory at Robertson Park on monday evening. Going behind to a Dickson goal in 27 minutes United rallied well and goals from Logan 37 minutes and a Mark Devenney header in 38 put the viewpark side ahead at the interval.
With the second half only moments old Devenney headed home number three from a long logan thrown on the right. Thorniewood at long last began putting together some nice football and at times had their hard working opponents chasing shadows.
A poor kick out from Albert keeper Smith was punished severely when Stephen Mullen burst into the box and lashed home his sixth goal in three games to make it 4v1 in 75 minutes.
With the visitors visibly wilting it was Thorniewood all the way from this point with a fifth coming from an og by centre half Smith who could only deflect a Daly header into his own net.
Thorniewood were denied a sixth minutes from the end when Stevenson appeared to be on side when finishing superbly but the referee harshly blow for offside.
Not as good a performance as at Stonehouse or Carluke but a hghly satisfactory one never the less in a hugely productive week thats seen Thorniewood take nine points from nine score 12 goals and move to the top of the table.

STONE beats WOOD
Stonehouse Violet 4v3 Thorniewood United
Stonehouse surrendered home advantage to take on Thorniewood in what amazingly was Robertson Park's first game of 2008.
Violet started brightly and soon had a rusty looking Wood side on the back foot with a couple of chances in the opening minutes. Indeed home keeper Simon Hunter had to produce an excellent stop in the 3rd to keep the scored level.
United came close in the 6th minute when a pin point Fallon free kick found Tobin at the back post but his net bound header was tipped over by Combe in the visiting goal.
This proved costly as Stonehouse took the lead a minute later when hesitancy between Brown and Hunter was punished.
A shaky. nervy looking United were further punished in 11 minutes when McGrotty took full advantage of a rather dubiously placed wall to fire home an 18 yard free kick low into the corner.
At the other end a point black Tobin effort was somehow kept out by Combe before another defensive horror show allowed McGrotty time and space to waltz past two challenges to slot home a 29th minute third.
At long last Thorniewood seemed to realise their plight and began to get on the ball. This was rewarded in 34 minutes when Dessy Bradshaw fired home from 6 yards to reduce the leeway. Moments later Darren Miller had a header tipped over by the alert Combe as Wood pressed.
The revival was stopped in its tracks however when Stonehouse rather against the run of play scored a crucial fourth in the 42nd minute.
The half time talk was obviously of the meaty variety as Wood started the second period with a purpose.
The pressure paid off in 49 minutes when Mark Daly sprung the offside trap to net with aplomb from 20 yards past the advancing Combe.
Captain Johnny Fallon then hit a rasping 30 yard free kick inches wide with the keeper rooted. Combe then became villan for Violet when flapping at a corner to allow Daly to bundle home to make it 3v4.
With Thorniewood well in command a needless 70th minute penalty was conceeded when Brown brought down McGrotty on the edge of the area. The same player them proceeded to
shoot tamely wide.
Just as the match seemed to be there for the taking United seemed to run out of steam and ideas and a combination of both seen Stonehouse hold on for victory.
A match where Thorniewoods lack of matches clearly showed with a first half performance being as poor as any witnessed this season. Although a marked improvement came after the break it was still overall a poor performance. A marked improvement is anticipated and neededthis Saturday for the visit of second placed Vale Of Leven in a vital promotion clash.

WOOD GAIN DRAW IN THE WIND
Thorniewood United 3v3 Kilbirnie Ladeside
United drew this hastily arranged friendly against a young, well organised Kilbirnie side at Sir Matt Busby Complex on Saturday afternoon.
In desperate conditions it was the visitors who were showing early, forcing a corner inside the opening 30 secs. This set the tone and it was no surprise to see them take the lead in 5 minutes when Kinney side footed home from 16 yards with Hunter unsighted.
Thorniewood at last registered a chance in the 9th minute when Stephen mullen got on the end of a long Eddie Logan throw but the strikers header was comfortably saved by the Ward in the Ladeside goal.
Starting to come more into the game the Viewpark side were awarded a penalty in 15 minutes when great play from Mullen on the byline forced him to be brought down and he made no mistake from the spot.
With the game now going from end to end it was Simon Hunter in the home goal's turn to get in the action when superbly turning a 20 yard Kinney free kick over the bar. Disappontingly for Wood however was when the resultant corner was scrambled home in a crowded area to give Kilbirnie a 2v1 lead.
Logan's long throws were proving effective and United captain Johnny Fallon latched onto one of them in 37 minutes but his flying effort from 6 yards when just wide with the goal at his mercy. The half ended with Hunter once more producing a fine save to stop the visitors increasing their advantage.
Playing into the wind in the second half seemed to suit Thorniewood better and they were soon level when great play on the left by Queen and Miller set up Mullen and from a tight angle he leveled the scoring in 51 minutes. Mark Daly then had a great chance to give United the lead but headed over at the back post from a Chris Queen corner.
Kilbirnie took the lead once more on the hour mark when Miller volleyed home following a cross from the left.
Thorniewood showing great spirit deservedly equallised in 70 minutes when excellent play from Ozzy Stevenson on the right created an opportunity for Darren Miller to tap home from close range.
Kilbirnie then finished the match strongly with a couple of fine saves by Hunter keeping them at bay before a fine 30 yard free kick effort from Johnny Fallon signalled the end of a highly entertaining and competitive friendly.
Co Manager Johnny Fallon commented. "Obviously we were disappointed that the Royal Albert match was off as the league is vitally important to us. However when the chance of this friendly arose we were more than happy to comply. It was a fantastic game of football played in adverse conditions and I think both teams can take great credit. Especially ours who were competing with a team 2 divisions higher and at times looked just as good. We also took the opportunity to try a few things out. Some worked some didn't but all in all it was a good day at the office. We now look forward to this Saturdays match with Carluke Rovers which should be a cracker".

WOOD WIN IN EAST END!
Shettleston 0v1 Thorniewood United
Thorniewood's promotion hopes remain high after this well deserved win in Glasgow's East End on Saturday.
In a very scrappy first half it was new signing Stephen Mullen from Kilsyth Rangers who produced one of the halfs rare moment of quality when volleying home from 12 yards in the 7th minute.
Mullen turned provider moments later when putting Johnny Fallon through but the midfielder scuffed his effort.
The second half started in positive fashion for Wood as Joe Tobin burst into the box in 48 minutes only to over run the ball as he was about to pull the trigger.
Shettleston at last registered an attempt at goal in the 49th minute when a cross from the right touchline was touched onto bar and post by Simon Hunter in the Thorniewood goal before being cleared. Shettleston's Shand then had a decent 18 yard effort well saved by Hunter as the home side enjoyed their best period of the match.
Mark Devenney done well to send Mullen through on the left but he failed to find the target as Wood stepped up the pace.
A minute later Tobin produced a great run on the right but his cross from the byline found no takers. A long throw by Eddie Logan in 79 minutes sent Mullen clear on right and his perfect cross was met by Chris Queen at the near post but the striker headed wide when it seemed easier to score. Some great skills by Tobin put Mullen through in 86 minutes but with just the keeper to beat he crashed his effort off the top of the crossbar. Thorniewood were almost made to pay for these misses when in the last minute Town sub Andy Thomson failed to execute a gilt edged chance.
A very scrappy encounter short of quality but deservedly won by Thorniewood who in truth should have added one or two more. A confidence boosting win with the added bonus of a clean sheet as well as new signing Stephen Mullen finding the target on his return to the club.

Largs thistle 3v1 Thorniewood United
SEASIDE WOES!
Thorniewood's seaside visit to Largs ended in defeat at Barrfield Stadium when the home side ran out deserved winners in this West Of Scotland Cup tie.
In a lively opening it was Largs who started the brighter and Paul Brown had to be alert to clear a McClure header off the line in 12 minutes. "Wood" came more into proceedings after this scare and indeed took the lead in the 20th minute when Chris Queen headed home after Connick in the home goal failed to deal with a Dessy Bradshaw effort.
Thorniewood captain Johnny Fallon almost added a second moments later when his 25 yard free kick fizzed inches over the bar.
Largs equalised in 28 minutes when Brown was beaten on the byline by the impressive Donnelly who squared for McClure to tap home from close range.
Largs started to enjoy most of the possesion and were rewarded in 40 minutes when they took the lead when a Black cross from wide on the right deflected off Daly and flew into the top corner with Hunter helpless.
The second period was a rather one sided affair with Largs dominant and on top in most departments. They came close to adding a third in 54 minutes when Black forced a great save from Hunter in the Wood goal. On the hour mark McClure was put clean through but somehow shot wide with the goal at his mercy.
The home sides pressure finally paid off in 76 minutes when Black took advantage of a mix up between Hunter and Devenney to slot home from 4 yards to effectively end the contest.
Thorniewood had a chance to pull one back in 80 minutes but Bradshaw's effort was somehow turned past by Connick.
A comfortable victory for a classy, confident Largs side against a hard working but rather subdued Thorniewood.

Greenock Juniors 2v3 Thorniewood United
QUEEN SINKS GREENOCK
Thorniewood produced a stunning second half peformance to gain a vital league win at rain sodden Greenock on Saturday.
In near Arctic conditions it was Wood who started the brighter when quality crosses by Devlin and Bradshaw had the home defence struggling. However it was Greenock who took
the lead in 5 minutes when the luckless Paul Brown could only knock into his own net following a cross from the left.
Simon Hunter then produced afine one handed save from Barnes moments later as Greenock pursued a second. They were soon rewarded when in 15 minutes centre back Malone unleashed an unstoppable 25 yarder high into the net.
Thorniewood then began to get themselves back into the contest and a well placed header from Joe Tobin was turned round the post by the alert Rodger in the home goal. The keeper then had to be at his best to tip over a Martin Devlin pile driver from the edge of the box. United were now enjoying a good spell and again were thwarted before the interval by Rodger who turned a 25 yard Dessy Bradshaw effort over the bar.
A stern half time talk had obviously hit home as Wood took the game to their hosts. This was rewarded inthe 56th minute when Ozzy Stevenson won a penalty on the right. Up stepped sub Chris Queen to send Rodger the wrong way to make it 2v1.
With Thorniewood now well on top it was no surprise to see the equaliser arrive in 70 minutes when a great ball by Stevenson put Devlin through - the winger rounded the keeper before squaring to Queen. The striker then showed great composure to slot home from 6 yards.
Queen again pounced 5 minutes later when leaving the home defence for dead, rounding the keeper and firing home form 15 yards.
Clearly ther fitter side Wood could have increased their advantage in the 82 minute but once again the excellent Rodger made a great stop from Devlin.
After a sluggish start Thorniewood more than made amends when they took control for almost the entire second half to earn a well deserved victory.
Manager Johnny Fallon enthused: " That was a great win. The lads showed real character to come back. This win sets us up nicely".

10 MAN WOOD - HELD TO DRAW
Thorniewood United 2v2 Cambuslang Rangers
A highly entertaining match ended level as Cambuslang came from two behind to snatch a late draw.
The match strated brightly with both sides eager to attack. This paid off for United inthe 13th minute when Martin Devlin drilled low into the net from 16 yards after good play on the left by Queen.
Simon Hunter in the home goal had to look lively to save a snap shot in 22 minutes. A key moment of the match followed a minute later when Eddie Logan was sent off after an incident in midfield reducing Wood to 10 men.
To their credit Thorniewood continued to take the game to their opponents and were further rewarded in 27 minutes when Chris queen added a second lobbing Smith from 25 yards after some excellent play from Stevenson and Miller.
This setback seemed to jolt Rangers and they began to show more urgency. It was Wood however who came closest when just before half time a Devlin shot was turned round for a corner.
the second period couldn't have been more different from the first with Cambuslang enjoying long periods of possession. Woods ultra cautious approach (planned or otherwise) invited the visitors to come forward and on the hour mark they pulled one back when Hunter could only parry into the path of the visting centre half and he made no mistake from 6 yards.
Thorniewood came close to adding a 3rd in 64 minutes when a superb cross field pass from Darren Miller found Devlin but the wing flashed past the far post with the keeper beaten.
Cambuslang's pressing finally produced an equaliser in the 85th minute when a shot fromthe edge of the box was cruelly deflected by Johnny Fallon past the despairing Simon Hunter in the home goal.
Incredibly it was 10 man Wood who then came closest twice with a Newman header 87 minutes and a Miller free kick in the 90th.
Co manager Johnny Stevenson reflected...." We are disappointed to have dropped two points after beign 2v0 up but under the circumstances the boys gave it their all. It all looked rosy early on but when Eddie got sent off it changed the complexsion of the game. Playing with 10 men for so long took it's toal of that there is no doubt".

WOOD DEFEAT GRITTY VIOLET
Thorniewood United 3v1 Stonehouse Violet
Thorniewood's revival continued on Saturday with a hard but deserved victory against a gritty Stonehouse Violet outfit. Falling behind to a 5th minute strike the Viewpark side knuckled down to the job and soon had the visitors on the back foot with Darren Miller heading over a Paul Stevenson cross a minute later. A great Joe Tobin pass in 15 minutes put Martin Devlin through but his first touch was a bit heavy and his effort was deflected for a corner. The visting defence again had to be on their toes when they again managed to deflect past for a corner following a long Thorniewood clearance in 20 minutes.
Stonehouse had a chance a minute later but Garry McRotty's double effort was blocked by the home defence.
Thorniewood deservedly equalised on the half hour mark when Joe Tobin headed a Devlin corner high into the rigging with Violet keeper Bruce rooted.
Stonehouse response was swift and in the next attack posted a speculative 30 yard attempt which hit the top of the crossbar with home keeper Hunter struggling. McGrotty was then shown the red card after a series of incidents reducing the visitors to 10 men.
Paul Stevenson then had a decent 20 yard shot as Wood finished the half on top.
ht 1v1
The first chance of the second period fell to Devlin who drilled a an effort just over from the edge of the area. Good play from the Stonehouse left winger presented a chance for the centre forward but the no 9 seen his effort come unluckily off the crossbar.
Thorniewood took the lead in 55 minutes thanks to a bit of brilliance from Darren Miller who on the right touchline magically beat two defenders before sending an inch perfect cross to the back post where Stevenson slid in to give United the lead. This was almost added to shortly after when Des Bradshaw glanced a long Logan throw in narrowly past.
Thorniewood then began to lose their way and allowed Stonehouse to come back into the contest.
With the weather making conditions difficult it was no surprise to see both sides struggle to play good football as it developed into a scrappy affair. This seemed to suit the visitors more and there more direct approach was presenting the Wood defence problems. These on the hole were dealt with well by a decent defensive display marshalled excellently by johnny Fallon in the sweepers roll.
Andy Dias came close to adding a 3rd on the hour when his 25 yard freekick grazed the junction on bar and post. Stonehouse themselves came close twice when first in the 75 minute Hunter had to look lively to hold the substitutes effort from inside the 6 yard line and again when saving from Johhny Fallon moments later when the defender could only head a cross form a corner towards his own goal.
Thankfully the all important 3rd was added in 86 minutes when substitute Neil Newman took advantage of a short passback rounded Bruce and scored from an acute angle. Hunter again saved well with two minutes remaining tipping over from a long range effort. In the last minute the alert Eddie Logan rounded Bruce but could only fire into the side net with the keeper appeared to foul him.
A decent performance from Thorniewood paricularly in the first period where they were largely on top followed by a more equal second. This results sees United move into 4th position in the league.
Co manager Johnny Stevenson commented..."It wasn't a pretty win where we had to dig in at times. But in the end we thoroughly deserved the 3 points"

WOOD BLOW TOWN AWAY"!!!
Thorniewood United 5v0 Shettleston Town
Shettleston were blown away in a whirlwind performance by Thorniewood at windy Robertson Park on Saturday. The Glasgow side had no answer to a slick passing rampant home side who produced easily their best performance of the season in this one sided affair.
The writing was on the wall for the visitors as early as the first minute when Martin Devlin scored at the second attempt 6 yards out following good work from Logan and Brown. Brown again caused havoc on the left moments later but his cross was spooned over by Des Bradshaw when in good position.
A trademark Andy Thomson header at the other end signalled Shettleston's first attempt but home keeper Simon Hunter saved well. The visitors long ball approach wasn't as "Woods" quicker passing, slicker football took control.
A 30 yard Bradshaw drive had Hutchison scrambling as it sailed just narrowly past.
Thorniewood's pressure was finally rewarded with a second in 35 minutes when Darren miller scored from the edge of the box after good play from Brown and Logan had set him up.
Mark Devennay had to be on his toes as Thomson threatened in the 40th minute but the home defender done superbly blocking the strikers effort. A great Stevenson run a minute later seen the midfielder go past three challenges and into the box but his effort was turned round for a corner by the Town keeper. With Thorniewood now well on top it was no surprise to see the impressive Paul Brown yet again produce a run and cross on the left forcing the visiting defence into a desperate clearance from below their own cross bar and from the resultant corner Joe Tobin headed just over at the back post.
The second half started as the first had ended with Thorniewood in total control and it was a matter of time until Eddie Logan made it 3v0 in the 47th minute with a quality left foot strike from 14 yards after some super play from Des Bradshaw. Bradshaw again was involved as he put Darren Miller through to score from 12 yards in 55 minutes.
Towns Willie Shand a close season target for Wood then hit the top of the cross bar from 30 yards to register what was about Shettelstons only attempt on goal in the second half.
United continued to dominate and scored a fifth in 62 minutes when good play by Devlin gave Logan a chance and he didn't disappoint slotting under the keeper from 12 yards.
Thorniewood went on to play the rest of the match almost entirely in Shettlestons half in what really was a first class performance. As good as any witnessed at the ground for a very long time. Co Manager Johnny Stevenson enthused: "What a performance. If we play liek that every week we need fear no one. We've got the skill here and the ability. We need to work on our consistency".
Thorniewood: Hunter, Devlin (Doogan 73), Brown (Queen 50), Fallon, McCormack, Devenney, Stevenson, Tobin (Pretswell 62), Miller, Bradshaw, Logan, subs not used: Cairns, Newman.

Vale of Leven 3v1 Thorniewood United
Defensive frailties cost Thorniewood dear at Alexandria on Saturday as they slipped to their 4th league defeat of the season. Vale started at break neck speed and soon had United chasing shadows. It was no surprise to see Vale take a 10th minute lead when Neil Newman headed into his own net following a cross from the left. He then remarkably almost equalised at the other end a minute later but his header from a Devlin cross went just over with Carr in the home goal rooted.
Vales dominance again paid off when they went 2v0 up in 15 minutes after Andy Dias had given the ball to Wilson who then ran into space before curling an unstoppable 25 yarder past the helpless Hunter.
Thorniewood at long last showed they were in the match and an effort from Fallon from the edge of the box and a double save from Carr from Devlin and Bradshaw at least gave encouragement.
In 25 minutes a Martin Devlin free kick found Darren Miller unmarked 6 yards out but under no pressure he failed to find the target when he looked sure to score. A Bradshaw volley from a Queen corner in 32 minutes was again stopped by Carr in the Vale goal as Wood pressed.
Brilliant play from Joe Tobin on the left ended agonisingly with his cross finding no takers as it ran across the face of the goal and behind.
Hunter had to be on his toes as he produced an excellent near post save to deny Martin in the 40th minute. On the stroke of half time the big keeper done even better when he brillaintly finger tipped a net bound Wilson drive for a corner.
Carr in the home goal was the first keeper called into action in the second period when he saved a well hit Queen 20 yarder following some good play from Bradshaw and Miller. At the other end Hunter again was forced into a great stop from the lively Wilson.
The game was a more even contest now with play going from end to end in what was an attacking contest. Chris Queen then missed a great chance on the hour mark to make it 2v1 when he opted to lob the keeper when going round him seemed the more obvious choice. This miss proved costly when in the very next attack Martin shrugged off a weak defensive challenge before slotting the ball home to effectively kill the contest.
Paul Brown did pull one back in the 70th minute when put through by a clever ball from Des Bradshaw but it was all to little too late in what was a very frustrating performance.
Thorniewood created a number of chances and their football going forward at times was pleasing to the eye. However their slow start to the match which is becoming a rather worrying reacurrance and their inability to defend or cope with the slick movement of Vale was there for all to see.

WOOD COME BACK FROM THE BRINK!
Cambuslang Rangers 4v4 Thorniewood United
A dramatic Brian Graham equaliser 2 minutes into stoppage time earned Thorniewood an astonishing and deserved point on Saturday.
They game had started in disastrous fashion for United as they went 3v0 inside the opening 11 minutes as Ogilvey took advantage of errors from Dias, Graham and Newman to register a quick fire hat-trick.
Clearly rattled Wood to their credit continued to try and play football and were rewarded in 21 minutes when a Queen effort was saved by the keeper knocked back by Newman and finished from 6 yards by an alert Johnny Fallon.
Number two followed on the half hour mark when Martin Devlin done well on the right and his cross was headed home bravely at the near post by Fallon.
United were enjoying the bulk of the play and deservedly equalised in the 37th minute when Devlin showed great control before firing home low into the corner from edge of the area.
United started off the second period in similar fashion and a great Devlin cross was met by Fallon but the strikers header came agonisingly off the underside of the bar. A huge Hunter clearance put Pretswell clear but the big strikers effort was saved by Smith in the home goal.
This signalled a response from Lang as the contest then developed into a more even affair. The home side went in front in 72 minutes in a break away after Darren Miller had been caught on the half way line. The winger cutting back for the centre forward to slot home.
United to their credit kept pushing and thought they had equalised in the 86th minute when Pretswell knocked home a Fallon flick only to find offside had been given.
The same decision was afforded the home side in the 90th minute when they thought they had wrapped up the points only to see the referee disallow.
With the home fans desperately calling for time came that late, late Graham equaliser.
A match in which co manager Johnny Stevenson reflected. " After being 3v0 down in 11 minutes the boys showed great character, determination and grit to get back into the match and in the end could have won it. Some missed chances in the second half cost us but all in all to take something at Cambuslang is always a good result".

Thorniewood United 4v2 Wishaw Juniors
Thorniewood recorded a much welcomed league victory against a stuffy Wishaw side on Saturday afternoon. Always well in front missed chances almost cost the home side dear as Wishaw rallied in the second period.
Chris Queen was first to threaten in 7 minutes when found at the back post by a Mark Devenney pass but the midfielder's effort was cleared off the line by the Wishaw defence.
Against the run of play the visitors won a penalty in 15 minutes when Graham fouled Miller in the box. Up stepped Coffey to hit the outside of the post to keep the score level. This didn't last however when 60 seconds later Coffey found himself unmarked between central defenders and headed home from 4 yards.
United continued to dominate and in the 23rd minute Chris Queen had an amazing but unsuccessful triple attempt at goal before Stevenson hit the bar moments later.
At last the equaliser came in the 29th minute with Johnny Fallon heading home a Stevenson corner. This was followed a minute later when Eddie Logan slipped home neatly from the edge of the area following a neat head flick by Queen.
Woods incessant pressure continued but Wishaw survived to go in at the interval only 2v1 down.
Wishaw were first to threaten in the second half when in 48 minutes the impressive Coffey again found himself in space but Hunter produced a great save to deny his shot.
United responded well and four minutes later a great run and cross by Logan found Joe Tobin but the youngster scooped over with the goal at his mercy. On the hour Tobin again missed a great chance when heading over from no more than a yard.
The one way traffic was halted when Ralston equalised out of the blue after Hunter appeared to have been impeded. This signalled a remarkable change in the game as Wishaw started to belive in themselves. They nearly took the lead in the 67th minute when Coffey yet again found space but hit the bar with his shot. A 73rd minute free kick then found Wood guilty of ball watching as Wishaw substitute Murdoch rattled the bar from the edge of the box.
A match that Thorniewood were in so much control of was now threatening to slip from them before up stepped Neil Newman in the 81st minute to head home from a free kick. This was added to in the 84th when a quick break from Queen and fallon put in Martin Devlin who produced a class finish into the bottom corner. Devlin again came close a minute later with a 30 yard shot before Wishaw yet again hit the bar when a poor Hunter clearance presented a chance for the visitors.
A welcome 3 points for Thorniewood as they continue to build on their slow start. A deserved victory in the end but worrying in a game that they dominated so much that they came close to giving it away. Manager Johnny Fallon commented. "It was a good win but we should have been out of sight by half time. The second half was a different story but we'll work on that at training this week".

WOOD SINK SHOTTS
Thorniewood United 2v1 Shotts Bon Accord
Thorniewood's recent fine form continued on Saturday when taking the scalp of premier outfit Shotts Bon Accord. The visitors started at break neck speed and had Wood under pressure with their slick passing and movement. Against the run of play United took the lead in 11 minutes when Eddie Logan curled a beauty into the side of the net from 12 yards following good play from Tobin and Devlin. This setback clearly rattled Shotts as the game became a more even contest. Darren Miller went close with a snap free kick in 22 minutes before Shotts equalised in the 26th when Boyack found Brown unmarked in the box and the midfielder headed home from 14 yards. Very little goalmouth action was taking place in a match played at great speed between the two opposing areas.
The second period started much brighter and Barr should have put Shotts in front in 46 minutes but miss timed his header in front of goal. Wood responded well and went ahead in 47 minutes when Fallon and Logan combined to put Queen through and the winger made no mistake. United came close to increasing the lead in the 55th minute when Dias found Tobin with a deep cross and the big midfielder's header accross goal was put behind for a corner by a releved Shotts defence.
Enjoying a good spell Thorniewood were almost caught out when Shotts broke the length of the park from a Wood corner and only a last ditch deflection saved the day. Martin Devlin then produced one dribble to many when he should have squared to the unmarked Queen but didn't and the chance was lost.
Home keeper Hunter had to look smart in the 65th minute but dealt confidently with a well struck shot. Shotts were clearly looking for an equaliser but in doing so were leaving gaps at the back and almost paid for this in the 75th minute when Johnny Fallon was through with the keeper to beat but inexplicably choose to pass to Murphy who was closed down and tackled.
Another great chance followed in the 81st minute when a great Devenney run and cross found Fallon and his header was blazed inches his own cross bar by Brown. The end to end stuff continued and Hunter superbly tipped over an 85th minute Shotts header. Shotts again came close as a header from a corner on the left grazed the crossbar before being cleared.
In the second minute of added time Logan and Tobin combined superbly and Tobins 18 yard effort came agonisingly off the inside of the post.
A fantastic result from a Thorniewood side currently in great form.

THORNIEWOOD UNITED 1V2 ARNISTON RANGERS
A cruel last minute strike denied Thorniewood in this lively Scottish Cup tie. Another excellent display was produced as they battled tooth and nail for everything against the more fancied outfit from Midlothian.
After an even opening it was Arniston who were first to threaten when a 6th minute header from a corner was headed off the line by an alert Andy Dias. Arniston again threatened moments later but the shot was deflected wide for a corner with Hunter beaten.
Joe Tobin produced Woods first real shot in 27 minutes but his effort was comfortably held by the impressive Bailey in the visiting goal. Arniston again went close when number nine's 25 yarder from the angle of the box hit the top of the net. The rest of the half was mainly contested in the midfield area.
ht 0-0
Johnny Fallon was presented with Woods best chance of the match in the 46th minute but from an inch perfect Dias cross the normally clinical striker headed over with the goal at his mercy.
Arnistons response was swift and in the next attack Hunter had to be at his best when saving at full stretch. The keeper though wasn't as convincing in the 53rd minute when not properly dealing with a cross presenting Rangers with a chance which they gratefully accepted.
A superb Fallon touch found Eddie Logan 16 yards out and the strikers effort again produced a fine stop from Bailey. Wood were now taking the match to the visitors and in the 58th minute a great Stevenson run ended with Des Bradshaw hitting the post from 8 yards.
With Arniston dropping deeper to protect the lead Wood again squandered a great chance when Chris Queen completely misskicked infront of goal. The same player re-deemed himself two minutes later when in the 79th minute scoring from the rebound after Bailey had saved his effort from the spot.
With both teams tiring the game became stretched and a number of fouls commited. From one of these Arniston capitalised big style. A free kick on the edge of the area in the 90th minute proved fatal to Wood as the effort came agonisingly off the underside of the bar before being headed home by a jubilant number 6.
The joy and not to mention relief was there for all to see from both the Arniston players and their travelling support.
A cruel blow indeed from a performance where a draw would have been a truer reflection. A game in which Thorniewood can take many positives from a side two divisions higher than them.
Thorniewood: Hunter, Devenney, Newman, Graham, Dias(Murphy 66), Queen, Bradshaw, Tobin, Stevenson(Miller 66), Fallon(Devlin88), Logan.
Thorniewood United 2v3 Carluke Rovers
Thorniewood maintained their winningless run on Saturday and now find themselves bottom of the
league. A pre season and league cup campaign that promised so much has so far produced very little.
United were first to threaten and with a couple of minutes gone Devlin and Logan combined with the formers shot being comfortably held by McFarlane in the Rovers goal. Thorniewood's penchant for losing early goals continued in the 4th minute when a comedy of errors in the defence allowed Weir to take advantage and the striker blasted high into the net with Hunter rooted.
The grumbles of the home fans had hardly died down when 60 secs later up popped Joe Tobin at the other end to equalise with an exquisite lob. In a much better performance Wood were giving as good as they were getting and at times looked the more likely side. Goalkeeper Simon Hunter however had to look lively when saving bravely at the strikers feet taking a knock in the process. This was followed in 25 minutes with Brown hitting the side net from a Devlin cutback. The move of the match then took place on the half hour mark when a sweeping move from Dias, Miller and Brown ended with Brown hitting into McFarlanes midriff when again in good position.
The second half started promisingly for Wood and Brown broke clear of the Rovers defence but lost control at the vital moment and the chance was snuffed out. Carluke then showed they were still in the contest when centre forward Ferguson ghosted into the box unmarked but his header was comfortably dealt with by Hunter.
Carluke went ahead in the 73rd minute when a long shy on the left was turned into his own net by Andy Dias attempting to clear Frame's scuffed effort.
Disaster followed when in the 75th minute substitute Fleming brushed aside two challenges before burying the ball into the corner of the net from 16 yards.
Wood pulled one back in the 78th minute with a Johnny Fallon overhead kick. Lively Rovers sub Fleming then had a good effort drilling his shot wide from the edge of the area before Neil Newman missed a gilt edged chance in the 88th minute hitting wide from 3 yards. The same player found himself on the end of a cross but his header was well saved by McFarlane in the 90th.
A game in which Wood should have taken something but didn't. A disappointed Johnny Fallon moaned.
“Once again poor defensive play let us down. We played well and were the better side over the 90 minutes. It was a big improvement from last week but we need a change of luck and need it fast”.
THORNIEWOOD: Hunter, Devenney, Graham, Newman, Dias, Logan, Tobin (Bradshaw 62), Brown, Devlin(Stevenson 73), Fallon, Miller(Queen69).
Thorniewood United 0v2 Greenock Juniors
Thorniewood's league campaign got of to the worst possible start at Robertson Park on Saturday with a home defeat to Greenock. The match itself was a drab, low key affair with little skill or flair on offer. The blustery conditions didn't help but this really was a shocker for those in attendance.
United started off fairly well and inside the opening 15 minutes had registered efforts from Queen, Tobin and Fallon. However it was the Tail Of The Bank club who took the lead in 18 minutes when from a shy on the right Barnes found himself space in and steered the ball into the corner from 16 yards.
Thorniewood response was a rather scuffed 21 st minute Eddie Logan shot which was turned round for a corner and an audacious Darren Miller free kick from the half way line which the keeper caught under his crossbar.
Greenock increased their lead on the half hour when Gilmour headed home from 14 yards from a cross on the right. From then until half time Thorniewood were under the cosh as the visitors took control.
The second period was a poor advert for football as Greenocks' stop, start, delaying tactics visibly frustrated the young Viewpark side. The home sides best chance fell to Joe Tobin midway through the half but his headed effort was clawed clear by the keeper under pressure from Chris Queen.
Home keeper Hunter then had to be on his toes to tip over a well struck 30 yard free kick before Ian Combe gave a way a penalty in the 75th minute.
Hunter then for the second time in 3 matches saved the award with an excellent stop from Dow.
United rallied a bit and had a good 10 minute spell when Johnny Fallon had a header cleared off the line in 82 minutes and Paul Brown hit into the side net when in good position in the 90th.
A disappointing match in general which a workman like Greenock side deserved to win. As joint Managers Fallon and Stevenson stated: “There was no spark. Too many players had an off day at the same time. If we had taken some of our early chances the score could have been very different”.
Thorniewood: Hunter, Devenney, Graham, Combe(Brownlie), Brown, Logan, Tobin, Miller, Queen, Fallon, Bradshaw(McFarlane). Subs not used Murphy, Dougan, Dias
Pre season report (Eddie Queen Tournament Fife)
Thorniewood retained the Eddie Queen Memorial Shield with a superb display against East premier outfit Oakley United on Sunday afternoon. Having disposed of Blackburn United by 3v1 on the Saturday.
Blackburn United 1v3 Thorniewood United
Wood started slowly and after a few missed chances Blackburn took a deserved 10th minute lead. This gave "Wood" the wake up call they needed and a 44th minute fallon penalty seen the Viewpark side go in level at the break.
Thorniewood up their performance in the second half and goals from Queen and Fallon seen them run out deserved winners.
Oakley United 1v4 Thorniewood United
After a lively start it was Thorniewood who settled the quicker. Looking the fitter "Wood" soon had the home side on the back foot and in 10 minutes Fallon's lob was headed off the line by the Oakley centre back. Thorniewoods disappointment was short lived as from the resulting corner Newman drove home from six yards after Bradshaws effort had been blocked.
In 13 minutes a great Daly pass found Fallon on the left but the strikers low cross was cut out by the home defence. Thorniewood again went close in 22 minutes when good play from Fallon and Bradshaw seen the latters 20 yard effort fly over the bar. The same pair again combined well in the 44th minute but this time Bradshaws powerful strike from 12 yards was drilled home with aplomb.
Oakley got themselves back into the contest in 48 mins when taking advantage of some poor defending from a deep cross to score from a simple header from 6 yards.
The game was by now becoming anything but a friendly and a number of meaty challenges from both sides were flying in, breaking the game up. T
This seemed to suit Oakley more as United from the first whistle always seemed to be the fitter, faster, slicker side.
Thorniewood at last regained their two goal lead int he 80th minute when Johhny Fallon shot home via the penalty spot after the impressive Devenay had been brought down in the box.
Fallon then missed a penalty a minute later after Chris Queen had been upended following an amazing run.
By now well on top the excellent Des Bradshaw then completed the rout when scoring in the 89 minute.
A very worthwile weekend in Fife with some of the new signings appearing to have slotted in well. Only black mark was the ordering to the stand of a well know "United" face and Dominoe for references allegedly made to the match official.

Thorniewood United 6v1 Wellhouse Amateurs
Sun drenched Robertson Park on Wednesday evening provided the venue for this entertaining encounter played throughout in a good spirit.
Both sides started off at a lively pace before home number 10 Des Bradshaw registered the first attempt on goal in 6 minutes firing over from 25 yards.
United good play finally paid off in 11minutes when Chris Queen latched onto a misplaced header from the visiting centre half to give the keeper no chance from 4 yards. Although behind in the territorial stakes Wellhouse were still a danger and Wood keeper Kevin McGhee had to look smart when saving bravely at the feet of the number 9 who wasn't holding back.
A good competitive match being enjoyed by the shirt sleeved crowd who then witnessed what must "already" be the goal of the season. A pin point ball from Dias was flicked on by Prestwell to Queen the striker took the ball to the byline before providing an excellent cross which Eddie Logan (marking his home debut) met flush full on the volley to send the ball raging high into the top corner. As magnificent a strike as you'll ever see in any grade of football.
Ironically moments later Queen contrived to miss one of the chances of the season. His electric pace got him there before the keeper but after rounding him and faced with an open goal he somehow contrived to hit the side net. The sublime to the ridiculous in the space of 2 minutes.
With the referee looking at his watch for half time Andy Dias raced forward on the left. Two Wellhouse defenders then tried to sandwich him, failing miserably in their mission they allowed him to ghost free and to add further woe seen his low cross put into the net by one of their own players.
Wellhouse started the second period aggressively and were awarded a 51st minute penalty after Combe was adjudged to have fouled in the area.
Home keeper McGhee was then deperately unluckly beaten with the big keeper getting a hand to it.
Immediately from the restart United asserted their 3 goal lead when second half sub Johnny Fallon kept up his already impressive tally by lobbing the keeper from 25 yards after a nice pass from Darren Miller.
New signing Prestwell was then put through by a massive McGhee kick out but his effort was well blocked by the Wellhouse keeper.
With Wood now well on top number 5 followed in 70 minutes when Fallon headed home an excellent effort following good work from Murphy and Devlin. Fallon himself then became provider in 87 minutes when brilliantly turning two defenders in one movement to put Prestwell through and the big striker made no mistake drilling home low into the corner.

Muirkirk 4v4 Thorniewood United
Thorniewood twice squandered a two goal lead to share the spoils in this eight goal thriller in East Ayshire on Saturday. The scoring began as early as the 4th minute when Eddie Logan was upended in the area and Chris Queen sent the keeper the wrong way with the kick.
Gaining confidnece from this Wood created a glorious chance for Johhny Fallon when Bradsahw found Queen on the left and from his inch perfect cross the striker volleyed wide when a header seemed the more obvious. A few minutes later United keeper Hunter had to look smart to thwart a Muirkirk attack.
With 20 minutes on the clock Mark Devenney supplied a wonder cross to Queen who headed across goal to Fallon but stretching just failed to knock it in at the far post with a home defender blocking. Moments later a great move involving over half a dozen passes ended with Martin Devlin hitting wide from 16 yards.
Mid way through the half Muirkirk gained an equaliser when a ball in the box couldnt be cleared and after a scramble they manged to knock home.
Recent signing from the highly successful under 21 side Joe Tobbin then put Queen through but with the keeper to beat he shot wide. Hunter again had to look sharp on the half hour mark when tipping over a home effort from the edge of the box. A quick double from Wood before the break through a Bradshaw strike in 38 mins and an og a minute later despite claims from United midfielder logan that it was his seen the viewpark side go in leading 3v1.
A worrying trend continued in the second half when Wood lost a goal in the 46th minute suggesting concentration isn't what it should be after the break. The two goal lead was restored in the 50th minute when a good run on the right by Devlin was thundered by Bradsahw. With United making a host of changes (to give no fewer than 18 of the 20 man squad a game) things began to lose shape. Hunter was again asked to produce a save and he did excellently on the hour. Devlin then missed a great opportunity when in on goal only to be denied by the legs of the keeper. Muirkirk scored a third in the 65th minute when again scoring after Wood failed to clear their lines.
The game was by now very stretched with chances being created at both ends although Wood still enjoyed the majority.
However in 78 minutesHunter who had earlier saved Wood somehow mangaged to conceed at his near post straight from a corner to give Muirkirk an equaliser.
In the dying minutes Terry Markey continued the trend when he too failed to convert when clean through on the keeper.
A very entertaining game and again one in which messrs Fallon & Stevenson will have learned things about the squad.

Thorniewood United 0v2 Bellshill Athletic
Thorniewood lost this local derby on Wednesday evening but can hold their heads high as they made their Premier opponents battle all the way in an entertaining encounter.
Bellshill were first to threaten when in 5 minutes Murray shot narrowly ever from the edge of the box. Thorniewood to their credit seemed to be enjoying the occasion and with 13 minutes on the clock Martin Devlin forced a wonder save from Tony Mitchell who somehow kept the ball out the postage stamp corner. Devlin again had a good opportunity mid way through the half but after a good run and dribble dragged his shot wide.
Bellshill almost took the lead moments later when home stopper Combe headed over his own crossbar when under pressure.
Straight from a Thorniewood free kick in 33 minutes Athletic winger Lawson broke free but Hunter in the United goal saved well. A spell of Bellshill pressure was soon to pay off and 4 minutes later Watrett headed home from 16 yards folowing a corner on the right despit the efforts of Murphy on the line.
A minute after the re-start Wood had a good move from Logan, Fallon and Devlin was foiled by the alert Mitchell. Bellshill then began to gain the upper hand and enjoyed most of the play for the next 15 minutes their closest effort coming from ex Hamilton and Dumbarton man Gemmell who headed over from a corner.
Daly then had a great opportunity to get the Viewparkers back on level terms with his header licking the paint of both post and bar with Mitchell rooted. This proved to be the turning point of the match as moments later in the 65 minute Gemmell headed home number two from 6 yards following a rather soft free kick award.
The impressive Mark Devenney then had a decent run and shot saved before Hunter saved bravely at the feet of Watrett at the other end.
Again Bellshill enjoyed the greater bulk of the play before Wood rallied in the closing minutes with Eddie Logan firing a decent effort wide.
A good display by Thorniewood who lost little in defeat and can go on from this. Bellshill's power play high crosses, corners etc paid dividends and their superior height and power was the main difference in the contest.
Thorniewood: Hunter, Devenney, Combe, Daly, Murphy, Devlin, Tobbin, Logan, Queen, Fallon, Bradshaw. Subs not used. Dias, Brownlie, Prestwell,
Bellshill: Mitchell, McCannich, Paterson, Murray, Coulter, Franchetti, Muir, McDonald, Gemmell, Wartrett, Lawson. Subs. McDivit, Conway, Dunsmore, Watson, Adamson.

Shettleston Town 3v3 Thorniewood United
A rainwashed Greenfield Park in Glasgow's east End provided the venue for this six goal thriller on Saturday afternoon. The tight confines always seem to provide plenty of goalmouth action and the home side went close in 5 minutes when McIntosh fired over from 20 yards. This was immediately counteracted at other end when the same player was inches away from scoring an og when he got in the way of a Devlin effort. From the resultant corner Bradshaw's strike was cleared off the line only to fall to Combe on the edge of the box and the big defender made no mistake with a well drilled volley. United almost added a second moments later when Fallon cleverly turned two defenders but lobbed just over.
Shettleston's lively front pair of Thomson and Shand then gained some reward when the former headed a trademark equaliser off the underside of the bar in 14 minutes. The home side boosted by the goal then had a decent shout for a penalty denied when Shand seemed to be brought down when through.
Midway through the half great control by Logan found Fallon but the striker failed to find the target with his header.
Thorniewood keeper Hunter had to look lively on the half hour mark to save a Logan header which almost sneaked in for an og.
With half time looming Hunter let a speculative Espener shot escape his grasp and from the corner Stevenson put the Glasgow side into the lead.
A good start to the second half seen Queen fire in a decent and a Fallon header off the bar in the first few minutes. This miss looked as if it would prove costly however when in 57 minutes Espener sprung the offside trap to cut across for Thomson to hit home to make it 3v1.
The referee then had the viewpark fans in uproar as he chalked off a Fallon goal in 60 minutes when there seemed to be a Shettleston defender on the line. Combe also came close with a good header in 64 minutes which Hutchison tipped over. The same player again almost snatched one shortly after but his well hit shot was cleared off the line. Enjoying a good spell Wood's new signing Joe Tobin then had a good run but his cut across goal found no takers.
Shettleston showed they were still in the contest when great play by Shand found Kassim but the full back blazed over when in good position.
Home midfielder Crichton then received his marching orders in 75 mins and this along with a double substitution signalled the start of almost one way traffic towards the Town goal and in the 80th minute Chris Queen latched onto a Murphy rebound to blast high into the net from 12 yards. 3 minutes later and it was all square Johnny Fallon making up for his earlier miss to bullett a header home from 6 yards. Further chances from Queen and Fallon followed before much to the relief of the home side the ref brought proceedings to an end.
A great advert for attacking football and one which Thorniewood can take great heart from particularly after going 3v1 down.

Thorniewood United 1v3 Petershill FC
Thorniewood went down to Petershill on Saturday but the Robertson Park faithful were treated to another outstanding display from Wood who deserved to take something from the match. Indeed surviving a gilt edged Fallon miss in the 92nd minute Peasy went down the other end to seal the victory with a 93rd minute third.
Petershill started the match brightly and were the dominant team in the early stages with their slick passing and movement catching the eye. The first chance of the match fell to Downs in 3 minutes but his effort was well saved by the legs of Hunter. The keeper again had to be at his best when producing a fine double save from McPhee and Dallas minutes later.
Thorniewood had a chance to take the lead in 14 minutes when Tobin and Queen combined to set up Bradshaw but the midfielders shot was excellently saved by Parry in the Petershill goal.
Having weathered a hectic opening 20 minutes Wood were by now finding their feet and producing some nice football. This didn't stop the visitors taking the lead however when in 29 minutes a Downs cross to the back post was blasted high into the net by McLernon.
Bradshaw again had a chance but his shot was saved by Parry from the rebound the visitors stormed up the field and only a last gasp interception by Brownliesaved the day. Chris Queen then produced a stunning 80 yard run but his final shot went tamely wide.

Thorniewood were first to threaten in the second period when Bradshaw was put through by a great Brown ball but couldn't produce a finish. By now very much on top the viewpark side missed the chance of the match in the 52nd minute when Queen failed to steer a Darren Miller pass into the gaping net. Wood continued to press and Prestwell appeared to be held back in the box before the ball broke to Darren Miller and from 25 yards he struck a thunderbolt past the helpless Parry for a 66th minute equaliser.
This lead was only held for around 60 secs when a short pass back from Brownlie caused mayhem in the home defence before Newman was adjuged to have handled and McKenzie made no mistake from the spot.
A triple substitution was made in 76 minutes to try and retrieve something from the match. The match flowed from end to end before that late, late miss.
“A first class performance from evryone in a T-Wood jersey I couldn't fault any of them,
praised manager Johnny Fallon. We are a young side with an average age of 22. I was particularly pleased with the first competitive debut from young Paul Brown who was excellent. The result without doubt flattered Petershill and we go into the league campaign in good spirit”.
