ROBERTSON PARK

At long last after receiving many requests a ground description of our very own "Theatre Of Dreams" has finally been drafted. Ok perhaps not the Bernabau or San Siro but the "Stade De Robertson" is no less important and no one can deny this unique little venue's place in football's "Hall Of Fame".

The ground is situated just off bustling Old Edinburgh Road and access is gained via a narrow road between the Highgate Nursing Home and some newly built Shopping Units. This leads down to the Social Club with the ground entrance to the right hand side.

Robertson Park has been home to Thorniewood since the 1950's. When the club moved from their former "Thorn Park" home in nearby Tannochside due to the building of the giant Caterpillar Tractor Plant.

The original surface was black ash which was replaced by grass in the 60's. The pitch itself is flat and of a very good size.

CLUBHOUSE SIDE:

This is the main side of "Robertson" with the Clubhouse sitting high on the grass banking overlooking the halfway line. Inside are housed the dressing rooms, managers office, referee's room and kitchen In front is a slabbed viewing area used by club officials (This area is chained off on match days).

To the right is the clubs very popular Shop/Pie Stall. The whole area is fronted by brightly painted red crush barriers. From here down to ground level is where the players enter and leave the pitch.

This area is also bordered on both sides by red metal fencing. To the bottom right is the Home Dugout while the away one is some 20/25 yards along the touchline towards the Nursery End. From the Clubhouse to the Nursery End there is nothing more than grass banking, some trees etc and the houses of West Avenue beyond. From the Clubhouse to "Highgate End" is again grass banking.

This time though development has taken place in the form of a stoned pathway with red metal crush barriers running from the Equipment Containers at the corner flag all the way up to the Clubhouse. This area proves a very popular viewing area on match days.Behind this a steep grass bank is topped by advertising boards and the Social Club behind. In the corner of the ground beyond the Containers is the Clubs Main Gate.

SHED SIDE:

The grounds large Maroon coloured Shed is sited here running some 15/20 yards either side of the halfway line. The structure houses a substantial covered area and provides excellent shelter and viewing on some wide concrete steps and large flat area behind.

From here to the Nursery End is nothing more than a low lying, overgrown grass bank backed by the huge Bairds Avenue trees. From here to the Highgate End is a much steeper grass banking again topped by trees and a large set of double gates right in the corner.

NURSERY END:

The most underdeveloped part of the ground being nothing more than a low flattish strip of grass, shrubs, trees and high corrugated fencing with "Viewpark Nursery" behind.

A ground with great viewing and a great atmosphere do yourself a favour and visit the ground on a match day. You'll enjoy the experience.
